UWE FASHION COMMUNICATION

My time studying Fashion Communication at UWE has been a truly gratifying experience, allowing myself to engage in live briefs, collaborating directly with industry brands in addition to working on Self-Directed Projects that allows me to create work that reflects my ethos and values, as a creative. These projects have allowed me to apply my creativity and strategic thinking in professional contexts, helping me develop key skills in branding, storytelling, content creation, and campaign development.

Below are some examples of projects I have proudly completed whilst studying on the UWE Fashion Communication Programme:

For my final Self-Directed Project, I created a hypothetical marketing campaign for the brand of Wales Bonner, promoting their FW24 collection, inspired by Howard University, a historic symbol of Black excellence and academia. The project allowed me to explore themes of identity, heritage, and empowerment, aligning with my own values and experiences as a black creative. It was inspiring to create a project, rooted in culture and history whilst simultaneously crafting a campaign that honoured both the vision of Wales Bonner and my own cultural perspectives.

Adam Jones Marketing Campaign

This project was a unique experience where I had the opportunity to work on a live brief with Adam Jones for his SS24. This was a group project in which I was the role of marketing manager meaning I was responsible for overseeing the campaign’s strategy and communication, marketing to spread brand awareness about Adam Jones to new audiences whilst maintaining brand identity to maintain existing, loyal customers. In addition, to managing the marketing aspects, I also assisted with photography on shoot days, to help ensure the visuals captured the essence of the collection and brand identity.

Burberry Advertorial for Self-Service magazine

Creating a hypothetical advertorial for an established brand such as Burberry, to be published in a publication like Self Service was a unique opportunity to align the brand’s FW24 collection with the magazine’s signature style of thought-provoking photography, with a minimal twist. This project tested my skills of understanding the Burberry brand values and the collection’s inspiration of the Great British outdoors; communicating this notion through my creative lens consisting of styling, creative direction and photography to create an advertorial encompassed through representing these factors.

Drawing upon my love of tennis, as a self-directed project, I created a hypothetical campaign for Nike Tennis in which I challenged and therefore strengthened my skills in art direction, typography and graphic design. Inspired by the bold and dynamic advertising campaigns of the 1980s, I embraced a retro aesthetic, in my approach to styling and creative direction to evoke and communicate the 80’s Nike visual language.

This three-week personal project explores the representation and expression of Black femininity within fashion image-making. This project explores and interrogates how Black women have historically been portrayed in fashion photography and how I filter this through my upbringing, surrounded by black the women in my family. This project challenges dominant beauty standards and celebrates the cultural richness embedded within Black femininity.
